Post Preview: 2012 BMW 3-series crossover (V3)

BMW is currently developing two new models based on its next-gen 3 and 5-series sedans that will take the luxury brand into new territory. The new models are best described as MPV-wagons, but unlike the current Touring models the new cars will feature a tall ride-height and high roof profile to maximize interior space.

The model based on the 5-series, which will be called V5, is due to arrive towards the end of the decade. If successful, BMW will then release a smaller version, dubbed V3, based on the next-gen 3-series.

BMW will be stressing the car’s coupe characteristics just as it did with the X6. Expect to see extremely short overhangs, pumped fenders and optional 20in wheels.
It will come with both RWD and xDrive AWD configurations, with power coming from a range of four and six cylinder engines. The rendering above gives us a preview of what the new V3 could look like, but BMW’s developers are yet to sign off on the final design.
