New member checking in from NY.
I myself don't own a bimmer but hopefully soon!
I am currently toying with the idea of either getting a used M3 or a new 335i

A new 335i would be appropriate. You can modify it as noted in this forum and come really close to the New M3 coming this spring.

Think about (For a minute), test drive the 335i and don't bother with the e46 (M3) if power is your major interest.
