Engine Refresher for M5 (e39) - Inexpensive Updates

Engine Refresher for M5 (e39) - Inexpensive Updates:

There are several sensors and other wear items on the M5 (e39) that should be updated every now and then (every 30,000 miles is a good idea). Changing these parts will very likley bring your M5 (e39) back to life, with renewed power, like it used to have when new.
Parts to Change:
  • Cam Position Sensors (CPS) - There are 4 sensors that need to be replaced. There are 2 Intake Cam Position Sensors and there are 2 Exhaust Cam Position Sensors. The Cam Position Sensor is also referred to as a "Camshaft Pulse Generator." Also, you will need to replace the associated "O" ring at the same time.
  • O2 (Lambda) Sensors - There are 4 of these that need to be replaced. There are 2 pre-catalytic converter sensors and 2 post-catalytic converter sensors.
  • MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensors - There are 2 of these that need to be replaced.
  • Spark Plugs - There are 8 of these that need to be replaced. The stock spark plugs are made by NGK and are called "Laser Platinum." If you want, you can purchase the NGK Iridium IX spark plugs from BeastPower (click HERE).
Cheers, Daniel.
